Quick Tip 5 for green thumbs in winter-buy seeds and bulbs

Saturday, January 13, 2024

Winter can be a downer time of year for those of us that love to garden, but it doesn't have to be!  There are many "gardener" things you can do during the cold months of the year.  I'm going to share an idea each week for the rest of the winter on gardening activities that help satisfy the itch and prepare us better for the upcoming spring season.  Here we go with Winter Quick Tip 5-buy seeds and bulbs.

Now is a great time to go ahead and make a list of the seeds and bulbs you want to plant for your spring and summer garden.  Take a look at your garden plan for this coming season My 2024 Edible Garden Plan and compare against your seed list Quick tip 3 for green thumbs in winter-organize your seeds to generate the list of seeds and bulbs you need for this coming gardening season.

You can order on-line for those that are rare.  Baker Creek Heirloom is a great one to order from as they don't charge for shipping and they have an amazing array of seeds.  A bonus is that they grow many of their seeds right here in the Midwest.  Any of the on line seed stores on the right I have found are top notch, too.

Seeds are in the big box stores right now along with seed starting supplies.  You can find many great varieties these days in big box stores.  It seems like every year the selection of heirlooms, organics and interesting varieties you can find continues to grow.

So, make your list, check it twice and get buying!
